(Reuters) – A third of US voters named the economy the most important issue to them when choosing the president, while two in ten cited COVID-19. This was the result of a poll by Edison Research on Tuesday.

The coronavirus infected more than 9.4 million people and killed more than 230,000 people in the United States this year.

In the national Exit poll, four in ten voters said efforts to contain the virus are going “very badly”. In the battlefield states of Florida and North Carolina, five in ten voters said the national response to the pandemic was “some or very bad”.

Half of voters said it was more important to contain the coronavirus even if it harms the economy. This emerges from the survey, which is based on face-to-face interviews with voters on Tuesday, face-to-face interviews in early polling centers before election day, and telephone interviews with people who voted by mail.

The poll found that nine in ten voters had already decided who to vote before October, and nine in ten voters said they were confident that their state would count the votes accurately.

Other issues that were paramount for voters were racial inequality, crime, security and health policy.

Edison creates exit polls and live election results for the National Election Pool (NASDAQ 🙂 media consortium.
