Those $ 1,400 stimulus checks are starting to land in bank accounts this weekend.
The IRS announced on Friday that the first batch will be shipped via direct deposit.
It is unclear how many of the estimated 159 million payments will be sent on this initial deployment.
According to official reports, the IRS and the Treasury Department are working to electronically pay out as many of the $ 1,400 checks as possible. Additional payments will be mailed by check or debit card.
The vast majority of payments are expected to be delivered in the next few weeks.

Stimulus Aid can be up to $ 1,400 per person, $ 2,800 per couple, plus $ 1,400 per dependent. For a family of four, that would be $ 5,600.
“Payments are automatically delivered to taxpayers even if the IRS continues to issue tax refunds on a regular basis,” said IRS Commissioner Chuck Rettig in a statement.
If you don’t receive payment, or if you receive a lower deposit than expected, you may fear that you will be missing out. If so, here’s what you can do.
Go to the Get My Payment website
Starting Monday, the status of the third payments will be displayed on the IRS Get My Payment website.
This website will be updated regularly as payments are processed.
Unfortunately, you cannot submit new or different bank account details.
Submit your tax return for 2020
The $ 1,400 stimulus checks are generally billed for either 2019 or 2020 tax returns, whichever you filed most recently.
When the IRS has received and processed your 2020 filing, your third stimulus review will be based on it.
This is important to know because if your income goes down in 2020, it will make your stimulus check bigger.
When the government sends your payment based on your 2019 return, it will evaluate whether the grand total should be higher and possibly add a follow-up payment to it.
Filing your 2020 tax return immediately has several advantages.
First of all, you can update your direct deposit information if necessary.
Second, filing as soon as possible may reveal that you were eligible for additional stimulus funds from the previous two payment rounds.
Third, there may be other stimulus benefits that you may qualify for. This includes the earned income tax credit, child tax credit, or other tax benefit.
There are currently no plans to reopen the tool that was available last year for non-filers. Instead, these people are asked to file a tax return in order to receive their money.
The IRS has more information on free filing tools on its website.
It may only take a while for your payment to arrive.
For most taxpayers, no action is required to initiate a payment, according to the IRS.
The money is automatically sent to qualified individuals and families available to the government.
This includes people who do not normally file tax returns, who have either used the non-filer tool in the last year, or who have filed a special simplified tax return.
This includes federal recipients who receive social security, supplemental security income, railroad pension, or veteran matters.
